Virtual Auditions Open for Lead Tap Dancer in “Happy Feet” Musical

A virtual open call is now underway for a star tap dancer to play the lead role of Mumble in Happy Feet, a new musical based on the 2006 Academy Award-winning animated film.
The production is seeking an exceptional tap dancer with strong acting ability for an Actors’ Equity Tier 3 Workshop taking place in New York City in 2027.
About the Project
Happy Feet is being developed as a new stage musical inspired by the beloved film about Mumble, a young penguin who expresses himself through tap dancing.

Mumble
Production is seeking:
✅ Male character
✅ Ages 18–20s
✅ Any ethnicity
✅ Exceptional tap dancer
✅ Strong acting ability
✅ Non-singing role
Mumble is described as vulnerable, lovable, persistent, determined, and ultimately triumphant. The role requires a dancer with excellent tap technique, strong musicality, clear articulation, rhythm, swing timing, and confidence in rhythmic phrasing.

💰 Rate: $1,460 weekly minimum

What to Submit
Applicants should prepare:
📹 Tap dancing footage that clearly shows and sounds your technique
👞 Improvisation footage is strongly encouraged
🎵 A cappella tap footage is especially helpful, but music is also accepted
🎭 The Mumble monologue, a monologue of choice, or a short story
🎬 Slate with your name and height
📸 Full-body shot
Videos do not need to be professionally produced. The casting team is most interested in clearly seeing and hearing your tap dancing.
