Virtual auditions are now open for “Unorthodox: A New Musical,” which will have its world premiere at The Huntington in Boston in 2027.

The production is seeking performers for two principal roles: Devoiri and Eli. The musical is based on Deborah Feldman’s bestselling memoir, “Unorthodox: The Scandalous Rejection of My Hasidic Roots,” and follows two generations of women connected through life in the Satmar Hasidic community.

Roles being cast include Devoiri, a Jewish female character who can play 17–26, and Eli, a Jewish male character in his 20s. Both roles require excellent singers. Jewish-identifying actors are strongly encouraged to submit.

Rehearsals are scheduled to begin March 27, 2027, with previews starting May 6, 2027, and opening night set for May 19, 2027. Performances will take place in Boston, Massachusetts, with closing currently planned for June 6 or June 13, 2027. The contract is Actors’ Equity LORT B, with a listed minimum salary of $1,213 per week.

Performers should prepare a brief cut of a contemporary musical theater song that shows vocal range. Submissions are due by September 1, 2026.
