Open Auditions in Albany, NY for The Color Purple: The Musical

Black Theatre Troupe of Upstate NY is holding open auditions for its upcoming production of The Color Purple: The Musical in Albany, New York.

The production will be presented at theREP from January 28 through February 7, 2027. Based on Alice Walker’s acclaimed novel, The Color Purple follows Celie’s powerful journey through family, hardship, love, resilience, and self-discovery.

🎭 Open Audition Dates

• Thursday, October 1, 2026: 6:00–9:00 PM

• Friday, October 2, 2026: 6:00–9:00 PM

• Saturday, October 3, 2026: 2:00–6:00 PM

No advance sign-up is required. Performers can simply attend one of the scheduled open audition sessions.

🎤 What to Prepare

Auditionees should prepare 16 bars of a song in the style of the show. Sheet music is welcome.

Following the vocal audition, some performers may be asked to read selections from the script. No advance preparation is required for the readings.

Selected auditionees may also be invited to a dance or movement callback, so comfortable clothing and appropriate footwear are recommended.

Actors should plan to remain for the full audition session or until dismissed by the director.
