Altarena Playhouse in Alameda, California is holding open auditions for “The Lion in Winter” by James Goldman, directed by Angela Mason.
The play is a sharp, dramatic comedy about the Plantagenet royal family as they battle for power, inheritance, and control of a kingdom during Christmas in 1183. With family conflict, political ambition, and royal tension at the center, the story follows King Henry II, Eleanor of Aquitaine, and their children as old rivalries come to the surface.
Audition Details
Production: The Lion in Winter
Theater: Altarena Playhouse
Location: 1409 High Street, Alameda, CA
Audition Dates: Saturday, May 30 at 1 PM and Sunday, May 31 at 6 PM, by appointment
Callbacks: Tuesday, June 2 at 7 PM, by invitation
Rehearsals Begin: September 8Performance Dates: October 23 – November 22
Pay: $500 reimbursement for expenses
Eligibility: Non-AEA performers only
Performers of all races, ethnicities, and genders are encouraged to audition. All roles will use a Transatlantic American accent. Please note that the role of Eleanor of Aquitaine has already been cast.

Available roles include Henry II, Alais, John, Geoffrey, Richard Lionheart, and Philip.
